Monitoring and Controlling Temperature and Humidity for Cement Storage Silo

Nov 05, 2021

Environmental Control

To ensure the quality of stored cement, monitoring and controlling the temperature and humidity are crucial. Cement should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated warehouse, away from areas with high humidity, harmful gases, and direct sunlight. Humidity has a direct impact on the quality of cement; high humidity can cause cement to absorb moisture and clump during storage, reducing its performance. The storage temperature for cement should be maintained within a suitable range. Excessive heat can cause rapid hardening of cement, reducing its reactivity, while low temperatures can affect the hydration process. Therefore, the storage environment temperature should be kept between 15-25 degrees Celsius to prevent adverse effects on cement quality due to extreme temperatures. The relative humidity of the storage environment should be kept below 70%, with temperatures controlled below 30°C. To prevent cement from getting damp, it is recommended to place desiccants in the storage environment or to enhance ventilation measures.

Monitoring Equipment and Technology in Cement Silo

Temperature and humidity monitoring devices, such as thermometers or sensors, should be used to regularly monitor the temperature and humidity in the cement storage area. In some modern storage facilities, automatic control systems like air conditioning or dehumidifiers can be installed to automatically regulate temperature and humidity, maintaining them within the appropriate range.

Management Measures

Regular checks should be conducted to assess the quality of the cement, with random sampling and laboratory testing to understand the stability and service life of the cement. If any issues with the cement quality are detected, timely measures should be taken to prevent poor-quality cement from entering construction sites, which could affect the quality and safety of construction projects. During storage, cement should be kept in intact packaging to prevent the intrusion of moisture and impurities. Damaged packaging should be replaced promptly. Cement should be stacked on wooden pallets with ventilation channels left between each stack to facilitate air circulation and inspection.

By implementing these measures, it is possible to effectively monitor and control the temperature and humidity during cement storage silo, ensuring that the cement remains in optimal condition during the storage period.
